Elimu ya chuo kikuu huaminika kuwa ndiyo inayomwezesha mtu kuweza kujimudu vizuri maishani.
       Kinyume na hivyo, siku hizi wengi wanaopata elimu ile wanashindwa kujimudu kwa sababu wamepata elimu duni au walitatizika sana wakisoma kiasi cha kutofaulu ipasavyo.
         Kuna matatizo mengi katika vyuo vikuu nchini ambayo yanaathiri shughuli za masomo kwa kiwango kikubwa. Kwa mfano, juzi wanafunzi wa chuo kikuu cha Kisii, Migori walijipata wamefungiwa vyumba vya malazi pamoja na vifaa vya kusomea kwa sababu kodi haikuwa imelipwa na usimamizi wa chuo hicho.
         Kulingana na wanafunzi, hawakuelewa ni kwa nini walihangaishwa kwa kufungiwa vyumba vyao ilhali walikuwa wamelipa ada yao chuoni. Si huko tu, vyuo vingi nchini haviwezi kukimu mahitaji ya nyumba za makazi kwa wanafunzi wao. Hili linawalazimisha wanafunzi kwenda kutafuta makao nje ya chuo, wengine katika sehemu hatari ambako huvamiwa na magenge ya wahalifu na kunyang’anywa vifaa vyao vya masomo hasa simu na tarakilishi.
          Novemba 11, 2019, Chuo Kikuu cha Sayansi na Teknolojia cha Jomo Kenyatta (JKUAT) kilifungwa baada ya wanafunzi kuzua ghasia kutokana na kile walichodai kuwa ni ukosefu wa usalama.
           Visa vya wanafunzi wa chuo hicho kuviziwa na kunyang’anywa pesa pamoja na bidhaa nyingine muhimu vimesikika mara kwa mara. Mambo haya yanatokana na vyuo vikuu kuchukua idadi kubwa sana ya wanafunzi bila kuwapa makao katika vyuo hivyo. Hili ni tatizo kubwa ambalo linahitaji utatuzi ikiwa elimu ya juu inatarajiwa kuhifadhi hadhi yake.
           Kuna tatizo jingine ambalo ni la vifaa vya kusomea. Maktaba nyingi huwa na vitabu ambavyo ni vya kale na vimepitwa na wakati. Vitabu hivi na majarida yanayopatikana hushindwa hutoa mafunzo yanayoafikiana na mahitaji ya maisha ya kisasa. Vilevile, maktabani hufurika wanafunzi kupita kiasi na nafasi ya kusoma vizuri hukosekana.
         Utafiti unaofanya na wanafunzi wengi wa vyuo vikuu haufikii viwango. Wengi hufanya utafiti wao wakiegemea mahitaji ya maendeleo ya kitaifa sana kuliko mahitaji ya kimsingi ya maisha. Hivi humaanisha kuwa matokeo yake hayafikii mahitaji ya elimu ya kiwango cha kimataifa.
           Iwapo elimu ya vyuo vikuu inahitajika kuwafaa wanaoisoma, hapana budi kuangazia matatizo haya na mengine mengi ambayo yanatatiza matokeo ya utendakazi katika nchi hii.
