SOCIAL RELATIONS AND CULTURAL ACTIVITIES

1. The Family

-A family is a group of people who are related by blood,marriage and adoption.

-It is the smallest social unit in a community.

Types of families

1. Nuclear family
2. Extended family.
3. Single parent family.

Nuclear family

-They made up of father, mother and children.Single parenthood and polygamous families are also classified as a nuclear family.

          Extended family

-It consist of all members of the nuclear family and relatives,

-They include grandparents,cousins,aunts,uncles,nephews and nieces,grandchildren,step brothers and sisters and in-laws.

                 Need of a family Members

-Needs of a family are all things or services a family requires to make life comfortable.

-Family needs are divided into Basic needs and Secondary needs.

Basic Needs

-They are also known as primary needs

-These are important needs a family member should have for them to continue living. They include ;

• Food
• Clothing
• Shelter
• Health

Secondary Needs

-These are needs of a family which are important but one can do without.

-No one can die for lacking them; they only make life more comfortable.

-They include;

• Education
• Land
• Property
• Love
• Entertainment respect

Responsibilities of member of the family

The parent.

1. They should be good role models to their children.
2. They should provide basic needs to their families.
3. Making decisions in the family.
4. They should provide education to their children.
5. For providing love and care to their children.
6. They should instilling discipline in all family members.
7. Ensuring family values and customs are maintained.

The children

They are young members in the family and have the following roles

1. Obeying and respecting their elders.
2. They should serve the community.
3. They should help their parents in doing some work at home.
4. They should protect family property.
5. They should obey, love and respect their parents.
6. They should keep family secrets.
7. They should also work hard in their studies.
