Vocabulary.
Read the passage in your primary English pupils’ book 6 pages 136-141. Find the meaning of the following words as used in the passage.
Debt, obey, secret, fail, generosity, furniture, refuse, greedy, daily, handful crack, enough, beside, quietly.
Language use:
Punctuation:
- The full stops are used at the end of every sentence and after abbreviations and initials.
Example:
- and Mrs. Gitau have invited us to dinner.
- - Mugo has just arrived from Britain, He is staying at the Hilton Hotel.
- I am flying to China tomorrow. Many people will come to see me off.
2.Commas:
- We use the comma to separate words or adjectives in a list.
Example:
- He put a razor, his towel, and a tube of shaving cream in his bag.
- - He carried a knife, a box of matches, a mango seed and a bundle of firewood on his shoulder.
B . Comma is used used to separate ‘Yes’ and ‘No’ from the rest of an answer.
Example:
- Yes, she was found stealing.
- Yes, I can hear him ringing his bicycle bell.
- In direct speech, the speaker’s words are separated from the introductory words by a comma.
Example:-Kim said, “let us go to sleep”
- We use the comma to separate the name of a person addressed in direct speech.
Example:
- “Anne, please come closer to the fire” he said.
1.We also use commas to separate a list of actions: e.g
- She stopped the lorry, got out of it. Picked her coat and run to the grocer’s shop.
- To separate a clause at the beginning of a sentence. E.g
- Although they were guilty, they were not arrested.
- To separate items in addresses e.g
- To separate a question tag from the rest of the sentence e.g
- She has eaten the cake, hasn’t she?
- QUESTION MARKS.
The question mark is used after a question or a question tag.
Example:
- Did you meet your Uncle?
- They will come home today, won’t they come?
